Staniland Marina & Thorne Yacht Club Social Committee run a number of events throughout the year. Below are dates for future events

forthcoming events

Friday 23rd May
KARAOKE DISCO
Fitting-out party

After a truly horrible Easter as far as boating is concerned, why not join us for what we hope will be a much better
Spring Bank Holiday. This annual event
will hopefully be marked with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the company of
fellow boaters and club members intent
on having fun. So why not join us in the
Yacht Club: sing dance and be merry!
Holding this event on a Friday, gives the boaters a chance to attend and still get
a weekend's boating in - perhaps on Saturday's cruise & barbeque?

Saturday
24th May
UP THE JUNCTION
Cruise and Barbeque

Setting off at 11am (giving the Friday
Night Revelers a chance to surface after their respective hang-overs!) take a
leisurely cruise up the canal in the company of like minded boaters,
stopping over night at the top of the
New Junction for a barbeque and the
continuation of festivities. All welcome,
further details and a contact number
for the trip organiser is available on
the club noticeboard or by calling the
Marina office.
Usual trip guidelines apply regarding boats

****NEWS FLASH****

RED
DIESEL

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and BMF (British Marine Federation) can now confirm that the key features of the new scheme for charging duty on marine diesel to be introduced by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) with effect from 1 November 2008 will be:

• Private users can continue to use marked fuel (red diesel) providing they make a simple declaration to the supplier and pay the full duty rate for heavy oil;

• Registered Dealers in Controlled Oils (RDCOs) will be responsible for declaring the duty collected to HMRC; and,

• Fuel purchased for domestic use (i.e. not for propulsion of the craft) can continue to be purchased at the rebated rate.

HMRC have yet to issue a public statement but have released to the RYA its Impact Assessment which is available in related links above.

Under the new scheme, HMRC envisage that boaters will ‘self declare’ whether they are a commercial or recreational vessel and recreational vessels will pay the full duty rate. Fuel used for heating purposes on board will continue to be sold at the rebated rate of duty and the retailer will take the owner's word, again based on self declaration, on what proportion is for heating or lighting and what is for propulsion.
